Throwback Most Rev. Naameh demystifies comments on Anti- LGBTQ+
The Catholic Church has once again reiterated its strong support for the Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill which seeks to provide remediative approaches for persons caught in the act.
Addressing a press conference to debunk a report by several media houses alleging that Ghana could become an Islamic State if parliament does not pass the Proper Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill, President of the Catholic Bishop Conference, Most Rev. Philip Naameh said, he strongly stand by his comment which supports the bill currently before parliament.
Most Rev. Naameh explained that the interpretation given to his comment in the said interview seems to be a scheme that is targeted at breaking the front and the collaboration given to the fight against legalizing LGBTQ+ in Ghana.
“I wish to state categorically and for the avoidance of doubt that the statement attributed to me are false and do not in anyway reflect the actual content of the conversation which has to do with the church’s support for the bill.”
“The position of the Catholic Church on LGBTQIA+ which I have stated in several interviews with the media has remained the same, that such practices are against not only Christian values but Muslim and Traditional values as well” he added.
Buttressing his point, Most Rev Naamey said, “In addition, I have the feeling that they only sort to cause disaffection for me and break the front of the formidable coalition behind the Proper Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill”, Leadership of the Tricycle Riders Association in Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Region have welcomed the decision by the Ghana Police Service to enforce traffic regulations to curb the spate of road accidents in the region.
The President of the Catholic Bishop Conference meanwhile, called on all peace-loving Ghanaians and all people of goodwill to disregard with contempt the fabrications and distortions which are intended to distract their collective quest to make sure the bill is passed.
