EJURAHENE BANS ORGANIZING “PENS DOWN JAMS” AFTER BECE

The Ejurahene, Barimah Osei Hwedie II, has announced a ban on organizing “Pens Down Jams” in Ejura Sekyedumase and areas under the Ejura Divisional Council. “Pens Down Jams” are events organized for Junior High School form three students after completing their final exams (BECE) to celebrate and enjoy themselves. However, these events have been associated with various unacceptable activities such as burning of tires, reckless motor riding leading to accidents, unprotected sex resulting in teenage pregnancy, and other disturbances.

The decision to ban such programs came after previous incidents where three students lost their lives during one of these events, and about 10 students became pregnant, leading to the end of their education pursuits. Due to these concerning outcomes, the traditional leaders (Nananom) decided to impose a ban on these activities.

Instead of these “Pens Down Jams,” the Ejurahene encourages religious leaders to organize programs at their respective churches, where students can express their gratitude and give thanks to the Lord for their accomplishments.

Additionally, Bar owners are warned to comply with the ban and refrain from selling alcohol to individuals under 18 years of age. Any pub or bar operator found violating this ban will face severe consequences.
