Mawuli George, the Project Coordinator for the Ahafo Reading Festival, has passionately appealed to the Ghana Library Authority to prioritize the development of libraries in the Ahafo Region. According to George, the region lags behind in terms of libraries, with the Regional Library itself being in a poor state, lacking even basic amenities like chairs. He emphasized the need to shift the focus towards education, as it has become increasingly important in the region.

George made this appeal during a book donation by the Ceccy Yaa foundation, an NGO, to Sekyerekrom M/A Basic School and Awurokrom Presbyterian Primary School in the Asunafo North Municipal of the Ahafo Region. The donation aimed to support the Ahafo Reading Festival and improve the region’s performance in the upcoming National Reading Festival Competition. George expressed hope that the donated books would help the children prepare well and achieve better results compared to the previous edition.

The appeal highlights the urgent need for the Ghana Library Authority to address the lack of libraries and improve the existing infrastructure in the Ahafo Region. By focusing on educational development and providing adequate resources, the region can further promote literacy and empower its students to excel in reading and learning.
