MIM RESIDENTS DISPLACED BY RAINS
The heavy rains in Ahafo Mim in the Asunafo North Municipality of the Ahafo Region particularly in areas like Domeabra, Feteeagya, and others, caused significant damage and displacement of residents. Many properties were destroyed, but fortunately, there were no reported casualties.
The Fetee river, which is prone to overflowing during heavy rains, had been dredged to facilitate better water flow, but it did not prevent the current havoc. In response to the situation, the Mim Traditional Council performed a ritual by pouring libation to appease the river gods and seek their intervention.
After the libation ceremony, several leaders from the Mim Traditional Council addressed the residents. Nana Kwame Hene ll, the Mim Manhene Akyeamehene, warned the residents not to build their houses in flood-prone areas.
Nana Yaw Sarfo, the Mim Manhene Kontihene, advised the residents to follow the instructions of Nananom (traditional authorities) and relocate from the river banks to safer areas.
Furthermore, Mim Manhene, Okofrobour Dr. Nana Yaw Agyei ll, emphasized that the floods should serve as a warning to the residents to take better care of the environment and keep water bodies clean. He also listed specific human activities that are considered taboo for the rivers of Mim, especially the Fetee river.
The flooding incident highlights the importance of understanding and respecting the natural environment to mitigate the impact of heavy rains and safeguard the well-being of the residents.
